Q – Can I join in more than one class?
A – Yes, many of the members cross train and take part in more than one discipline. We have a range of flexible prices to take advantage of.
Q – Do you need to be fit before starting?
A – NO, all martial arts & fitness sessions are aimed at individuals and their own goals. Fitness is measured on the individual rather than top athletes. Your increase in fitness comes in time, so don’t worry about not being superfit, you don’t need to be.
Q – How can Martial Arts help me?
A – There are many reasons why people choose to start a Martial Art. They might be experiencing bullying at school or in the workplace and be looking to improve their confidence. Some might be working towards a fitness goal to become stronger, faster, more flexible, or even to lose weight. Or it can be any combination of these goals. Martial Arts can provide a mental workout as well as the physical benefits. Practitioners gain self-discipline, control, respect and all other traits – everyone achieves something different.
Some may be hoping to compete in tournaments to reach new heights of personal achievement. Others may be considering Martial Arts having seen the 2012 Olympics on TV, or maybe as a New Year’s Resolution. Martial Arts offers many opportunities and many different paths to success, so whatever your motivation it is possible to find what you are looking for through Martial Arts.
Q – Can I just turn up?
A – You can but some classes are busy and you may need to book. The junior classes are very popular. Contact one of the instructors and they will let you know class availability.
Q – What is Martial Arts?
A – Martial Arts is the overall term to describe the fighting styles which evolved in Far East Asia from about the 15th century onwards. Martial Arts includes Karate, Ju-Jitsu, Kung Fu and many other disciplines. Some of these disciplines can be traced back hundreds or thousands of years, however the roots of the modern Martial Arts that we practice today typically originated in the late 19th century, in the Okinawan Islands of Japan.
Martial Arts became more widely practiced as the students of the great Masters moved away and founded new schools, first in Japan and eventually worldwide. Martial Arts has continued to evolve during this time as Masters and students seek training from many disciplines and then go on to form new dojos and teach their discipline. This evolution can be traced from the earliest Karate and Ju-jitsu styles right through to the very popular sport of Mixed Martial Arts which we see on TV today.
